What is the benefit of having my unit advertised, or searching for a home, on H.O.M.E?

This portal is a way for landlords specifically looking to connect with Syrian refugees to do so. Sponsors and refugees must register and be approved to use the portal, so there is an authentication process. The objective of the H.O.M.E portal is match people in need with people wanting to assist them.

What type of housing can be posted?

Currently the H.O.M.E portal is focused on self-contained units (no rooming houses or single rooms for rent would be approved for posting).

How much does it cost to post a rental unit?

H.O.M.E access is free for all users.

How long can a unit be posted?

There is no limit to how long a unit can be posted. Landlords will receive an automated notification after 30 days if a listing remains active.

Is this only for units in Toronto?

Currently the focus is on the Greater Toronto Area but the system has the capacity to be scaled up to reach a broader audience.

What information do refugees/landlords/donors need to provide to be granted approval to access H.O.M.E?

All applicants must identify whether they are a refugee, sponsor, housing provider or goods/services donor and provide basic contact information. Additionally, refugees or sponsors acting on their behalf must include their Immigration Document Number (which identifies refugees).

How are you addressing privacy concerns? Is this information being shared?

Access to information is specific to the user (e.g. goods/services donors cannot access information about other donors). All applicants must agree to the portal terms of use. The portal is compliant with Canada’s Anti-Spam Law (CASL).
